Defying the Odds: How Bo Reichenbach’s Journey Inspires a New Chapter for Wounded Veterans

Bo Reichenbach’s story isn’t just about survival—it’s about defying the odds and inspiring others along the way. A former Navy SEAL, a world-class athlete, a devoted father, and an unwavering advocate for wounded veterans, Bo has redefined what it means to keep moving forward in the face of life-altering adversity.

Born and raised in Billings, Montana, Bo grew up on the ice, chasing a dream of playing professional hockey. As a teenager, he moved to Canada to play junior hockey with the Thunder Bay Wolverines, determined to one day make it to the NHL. But when duty called, Bo answered. In 2008, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, earning a coveted place in the SEAL teams by 2010.

In 2012, just two years into his career as a SEAL, Bo was deployed to Afghanistan. On July 17th, while leading a foot patrol, Bo was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast resulted in the loss of both his legs above the knee and severe injuries to his right arm. At just 24 years old, Bo’s life was forever changed.

But what could have been the end of Bo’s story was only the beginning.

During his recovery, Bo rediscovered his love for hockey—this time through adaptive sports. With determination and athletic drive, he earned a spot on the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team, competing on the world stage. In 2017, Bo helped lead the team to a silver medal at the World Para Ice Hockey Championships in Gangneung, South Korea.

Even with his return to competitive sport, Bo’s challenges didn’t stop there. Life as a wounded veteran—especially as a single father—requires more than just physical recovery. There are the quiet moments of pain, the daily logistics of mobility, the financial pressure, and the emotional weight that few can truly understand.

Organizations like Parker’s Platoon have helped shoulder that weight. Founded by former NHL player Scott Parker and his wife Francesca, Parker’s Platoon is dedicated to supporting veterans in their transition to civilian life. The organization works one-on-one with warriors like Bo, offering personalized assistance tailored to their unique needs—from emotional support to critical supplies and adaptive gear.

This year, funds raised in partnership with Parker’s Platoon helped Bo take a major step forward—literally. With over $10,000 raised, Bo will be receiving a new pair of high-quality prosthetic legs that will improve his mobility and independence, giving him the freedom to continue building the life he envisions for himself and his son.

Bo isn’t just a recipient of support—he’s an advocate. He uses his voice to shed light on the complex challenges wounded veterans face long after they return home. Whether speaking at events, mentoring fellow vets, or simply showing up with honesty and strength, Bo continues to lead by example.

Helping veterans reintegrate into society doesn’t end when the uniform comes off—it’s a long, often difficult road that deserves sustained attention and real resources. Bo’s journey highlights that reality. His resilience is remarkable, but no one should have to navigate this path alone.

We’re proud to stand beside Bo as he continues rebuilding his life—on his own terms. Supporting a hero like Bo isn’t just about honoring his service—it’s about investing in his future. It’s about ensuring that those who’ve sacrificed so much have the tools, care, and community they need to thrive well beyond their time in uniform.

This is what it means to show up for our veterans—and we’re honored to do just that.
