A breast cancer diagnosis changes everything in an instant. One moment life is moving forward, and the next, a patient is navigating a world of treatment schedules, side effects, fear, and an overwhelming flood of decisions. And underneath all of it is a quieter, equally devastating challenge: facing that journey feeling completely alone, often invisible to the outside world.
That’s the gap THE Breast Cancer Fundraiser was built to close.
Care That Shows Up in the Room
Founded on a simple but powerful belief that no patient should feel alone, THE Breast Cancer Fundraiser (THE BCF) delivers what they call WeCare Packages directly to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at the moment they need it most. Their mission is to preserve the dignity of breast cancer patients and their loved ones by providing tangible, compassionate care. These aren’t symbolic gestures. They’re thoughtfully assembled packages built around five categories of care: Beauty, Comfort, Wellness, Journey, and Loved Ones.
From a chemo beanie to a yoga mat to comforting socks and a neck pillow, each item in a WeCare Package was chosen by design. Inspired by the firsthand experience of breast cancer survivor Erin Monroe, who helped shape the program from the inside out. The message every package delivers is clear: you are not alone in this.
Getting Packages Where They’re Needed
THE BCF reaches patients through two primary channels. Through their WeGive Days hosted in partnership with hospitals and breast centers, patients are brought together for afternoons of community, education, and giving, with each attendee receiving a WeCare Package in person. For patients who can’t attend or live outside easy reach of a partner facility, THE BCF ships directly to patient homes, ensuring that geographic distance doesn’t mean going without support.
Their WeBuild events extend the mission further, engaging employees and community volunteers in assembling care packages together — turning an afternoon of teamwork into direct relief for patients across the country.
A Mission Built by Survivors, Powered by Community
What makes THE BCF distinct is who’s driving it. Survivors aren’t just the recipients of their work, they’re on the board of advisors, shaping how the organization shows up. Dana Leiken-Richards, Erin Monroe, and Natalie Grumet are all breast cancer survivors who inform the program from lived experience. The result is an organization that understands the emotional and physical weight of the journey in a way most institutions never could.
Founded by Nilo G. Low and operating as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, THE BCF has built a network of hospital and breast center partners, corporate sponsors, and volunteers committed to one shared purpose: making sure that every woman who hears the words “you have breast cancer” has something warm waiting for her.
Why We’re Proud to Partner With THE BCF
At Social Cannabis, community isn’t a campaign, it’s a commitment. Through our Be.Social Community Program, a portion of every qualifying purchase at Social is directed to a nonprofit partner doing meaningful, tangible work. This quarter, that partner is THE Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Breast cancer touches nearly everyone. It’s a mother, a sister, a friend, a colleague. It’s someone in every neighborhood we operate in, from Colorado to New Jersey.
Every purchase you make at Social this quarter is part of something bigger. You’re helping put a WeCare Package in the hands of a newly diagnosed patient. You’re helping fund WeGive Days where women share meals, stories, and strength. You’re helping make sure that when someone gets the hardest news of their life, the first thing they feel is supported.
Because they deserve more than a diagnosis. They deserve a community behind them and together, we’re building that.
