Ounce of Weed to Grams Conversion Table
An ounce of weed is 28 grams. That’s the base number everyone needs to know — but the ounce-to-gram math branches into eighths, quarters, halves, and more. Here’s the full conversion table plus what these numbers look like at Social Dispensary’s deli counter.
Key Details
The Master Conversion Table
Gram: 1g (the smallest standard unit).
Eighth (1/8 ounce): 3.5g — industry standard. (At Social Dispensary’s deli counter: 5g).
Quarter (1/4 ounce): 7g — industry standard. (At Social’s deli: 10g).
Half ounce: 14g.
Ounce: 28g.
Quarter pound: 112g (4 ounces) — wholesale territory.
Pound: 448g (16 ounces) — wholesale territory.
Why Weed Is Measured This Way
The American cannabis industry inherited its weight hierarchy from imperial measurement and black-market tradition. Before legalization, cannabis was sold by ounce and its fractions (eighth, quarter, half).
The metric conversion (grams) came later as labs and regulators needed precise measurement. Now, most dispensary menus list both — ‘Eighth (3.5g)’ or ‘Quarter (7g)’ — so consumers can see either unit.
The ’rounding down’ convention (28g instead of 28.35g) is also industry standard. It’s slightly less weed than a true ounce, but it’s universal across legal markets.
Ounce Math in Practice
If you buy a zip (ounce) and want to know how many eighths it equals: 28 ÷ 3.5 = 8 eighths.
If you buy a quarter and want to know how many grams: 7g.
If you buy an eighth and want to know how many half-gram joints you can roll: 3.5 ÷ 0.5 = 7 joints.
If you buy a half ounce and want to know how many bowls you can pack (assume 0.3g per bowl): 14 ÷ 0.3 ≈ 46 bowls.
The Deli-Style Difference at Social
At most dispensaries, an eighth is exactly 3.5g. At Social, our deli counter sells 5-gram eighths — nearly 50% more flower per eighth than the industry standard. A Social ‘quarter’ is 10g, not 7g.
That means the traditional ‘ounce = 8 eighths’ math works out differently at Social. If you buy eight of our deli eighths at 5g each, you’ve got 40 grams of flower — significantly more than a standard ounce.
For pricing, this matters. A per-gram comparison between a standard 3.5g eighth and a Social 5g eighth almost always favors Social. Our deli style is one of the clearest value advantages in the Colorado market.
Pricing by Quantity (Colorado Rough Ranges)
1g (standard): $8–15
Eighth (3.5g): $25–50
Quarter (7g): $40–90
Half ounce (14g): $50–150
Ounce (28g): $100–300
Prices vary massively by tier (budget vs premium) and store. Check Social’s Max Value Menu weekly for the best per-gram deals at any quantity.
